Canon Abilities:
pictos + lumina
Utilising Chroma (a natural force of life and power within their world), Pictos harnesses that raw power into abilities that can be taught, which can range from skills that can heal, grant support buffs, combat abilities, or allow him to be able to summon objects (such as weaponry or even instruments). The Lumina Converter that he developed alongside Lune allows him to harness Chroma and use Pictos more efficiently.
combat
As kind hearted and gentle as he is, Gustave is well-trained in combat with both a sword and a pistol, as would be expected for someone who was about to go out on an expedition to the continent. With his specially designed prosthetic arm, made to directly harness incredible amounts of Chroma, he can also use an ability called Overcharge, which is a lightning-based attack that does a great deal of damage.
engineer
Gustave's true calling and his greatest passion is in engineering. Apprenticed at the age of six to the former maintainer of the dome, Gustave learned how to care for, maintain, and repair it. Of course, that also meant he was imagining ways to improve it, but his focus didn't sit entirely with the Dome, putting his creativity and desire to help others into various projects over the years, including projects like Aquafarm 3 which provided food for people who had otherwise been unable to get any. The Lumina Converter was perhaps one of his greatest achievements and he hoped that it would have been able to help his expedition stop the Paintress and put an end to the Gommage once and for all.

π¦ Personality
Long
At only thirty-two, Gustave is the oldest man in Lumière. Life is short for people in his world and that means that a lot of choices need to be made younger than maybe they might have been before the Fracture. Still, Gustave had always been a decisive man, knowing exactly what he wanted out of his life, what he wanted to accomplish and when, but more than that, Gustave always knew that he wanted where his life to go, the path he wanted to follow. Early in his apprenticeship, he strove to develop new and safer ways to maintain the Dome that protected the city, but he always looked forward to something more, to falling in love and starting a family. He got the former, but never the latter, not in the way that he thought he would, but he got his apprentices and he adopted Maelle, and in the end, he god the family he needed.
DANCE
Trapped in this delicate balance, Gustave feels as if he is at times just going through the motions, skirting a little too close to dangerous things only to take those two gracious steps back. Seeing so many people he knew killed so brutally right in front of him, believing that he'd lost everyone he cared about, was almost too much, and even after finding familiar faces, that pain remained. Gustave dances on a very fine line, one that he had been prepared to cross and one that he technically has once already. Depression and melancholy are frightening, all-consuming things that make for tiring partners, but Gustave doesn't know how to pull away, only just keep pushing forward in the hopes of things maybe getting better.
door
Joining Expedition 33 was, in his mind, Gustave's last opportunity to make a difference. With only one year left, sitting and waiting for his gommage would have been unbearable because it's in his nature to always be strong for those around him, to be the pillar to hold them up, and he knew the weight of bearing that burden would have broken him down, and Gustave wanted an escape from all of that. So he poured his heart into the Lumina Converter and when the time came, he volunteered for the expedition, not knowing if he would survive it, but taking that risk because it meant that he might be able to do something worth remembering, that he could open new doors for the generations that would come after.
CHILD
Gustave has the gentleness and the patience of a man who was always meant to be a father. It was almost as if it was written right into the core of his very being, this kind understanding that makes him a safe place for people to come to when they feel like they need advice, or a place to vent, or just a warm hug and a bad joke. There's a persistent warmth to him that the harsh reality of their world hasn't quite extinguished, not completely, and he is incredibly proud and protective of those who he has taken under his wing, willing to go to great lengths for them, even face the impossible for the chance to give them a better life.
glass
With his heart on his sleeve and his every expression written right on his face, it's never hard to tell what Gustave is feeling or thinking. He's a very open, genuine, and honest man, feeling everything whole-heartedly and with gusto. Of course, this means that the lows hit him just as hard and drag him down as the highs lift him up. Sometimes, he also just feels transparent in the literal sense, like people can see right through him. Gustave's greatest desire is to be able to make a difference "for those who come after", a phrase that he's internalised from a young age, but he's afraid that he isn't able to change anything and that everything he's done is forgettable and meaningless.
flower
It feels like a single flower changed his entire life. It didn't but Gustave feels the heaviness of it anyway, a single red rose that he wove into a garland for the first woman he ever really loved, and the one he thought he would spend his entire life with. Four years had passed and he hadn't really gotten over her but he had waited too long to talk to her again, too long to get closure, and their last day was horribly bittersweet and it began with him bringing her a flower. Gustave doesn't carry a lot of regrets, but the way things ended with Sophie will always be one of them.
π¦ Fae Court
- Dusk (I have to because that interaction with Zorya was *chef's kiss*)
- Day
- Dawn
3) Yes, but they either have no ability of their own, or they refuse to trade theirs away; they will buy their court's ability on credit.
Naturally curious and believing he's on borrowed time anyway, Gustave would have said yes to a deal. Honestly, it's really on the fae for making a deal with a man about to gommage anyway. Bad business sense, really.
